With standard all-wheel drive, full redesign recently, and some active-safety features impressive that does not break the bank, 2016 Subaru Legacy adds up to quite a value, especially in the four-cylinder version. That’s part of why, last year, we named our car out Best To Buy 2015.
You will not find a turbocharged four-cylinder engine Subaru here; instead there is a four-cylinder (2.5i) and six-cylinder models (3.6R) model, with the former supported by a 175-horsepower, 2.5-liter flat four who need to work hard when it is more than just a driver is aboard. But the good sound insulation means that it will not serve as a reminder of your frugality. Legacy 3.6R Sedan comes with a 256-hp 3.6-liter flat-six engine, which is not strong or responsive as we would like. It was smooth, graceful sedan, with well-tuned ride and well-weighted electric power steering. For 2016 Subaru has made some minor changes to the damping in the top 3.6R Limited models.
Very good gas mileage. Legacy four-cylinder engine is now rated at 30 mpg combined, the best in the small niche of a family sedan with all-wheel drive. However, the 36-mpg highway rating is up there with the 37-mpg Altima. Six cylinders were less impressive, at 23 mpg combined.
